So as many of you probably heard we took our sweet time in Germany and did some sightseeing of Leipzig-Halle in the East... Actually, we merely sat for 20 hours waiting on our plane to fix itself before continuing to Kyrgyzstan. Remind me never to complain about a layover again! I arrived into Manas (or Man-A** as many in uniform call it) a little after midnight local time (around 1pm EDT) and a good 5 hours later had my stuff to bed down in our bays we'll be staying in. I should have known that even in deployment the only thing soldiers can really do is hurry up and wait, a phrase known by all who've been in the military. So wait we did inside the terminal in Leipzig (pictures to come later). Thus far everything is going well. Being surrounded by hundreds of others who are going through the same thing makes for a good attitude heading into Bagram. As Kim mentioned it was a rough night saying good-bye, but in a way was relieving to know that our time has started toward seeing each other again next year. Aside from my body not knowing which clock to follow (it is right now 630 am Manas time, 1130 pm Germany time, and 730 pm Savannah time) I am doing well and ready to get some rest and a shower (same clothes for two days while sitting in an airport = not clean). As far as when we take the next leg into Bagram I do not know and for security reasons probably will not be able to tell you when I do know, but rest assured it will hopefully not be more than a couple of days at most. I will post up some pictures from Germany, (well I should just say the airport in Germany, cuz I know that what I saw ain't the Germany I've heard of!) sometime later today while all of you in the states are still sleeping.
In closing, thank you thank you thank you for all of the prayers, thoughts and phone calls we have had since the start of this chapter of our lives. I know they mean a lot to Kim and even though i may not get to hear all of the calls/cards etc., I am very thankful to know that we do have an amazing support system through all of this! Thanks again and have a great day!
