Hello again from Morales, the French Quarter of Afghanistan! Literally, it's complete with a Ciano's italian pizzeria (really good cappuchinos, yes I know I don't drink coffee, but they don't taste like coffee, so i drink them!) and a real live bar (yes, the French drink pretty regularly and even have their own cash bar with several varieties of beer and liquor, crazy if you ask me!). It's been about one month since arriving here at MRF and the time has seemingly flown by. Days have been busy for the most part, mainly coordinating for ops going on between the French and our aviation battalion. I've been getting to speak French regularly each day, and have tried to speak more French than English throughout my day to improve even more. I think by the time R&R hits I will be fluent enough to guide Kim through France without looking like total tourists! Ha, but we shall see! I am glad that it is almost summer and as Kim mentioned in her last post we are already halfway done! Unbelieveable! Thus far the heat has not been too bad, it's only been getting up around the 80s during the day. I'm waiting for the extreme heat, of course I waited for the extreme winter just a few months ago that never really came (only one real snowfall for all of winter!). Things here are going well though, other than of course not flying. I've found my fellow apache pilots cruising over MRF quite often, almost as though they are coming to find me to say hello. I know my time to fly with them lie ahead of me, and it could not come soon enough! There are French helicopters coming in and out of here pretty regularly and I even got the chance to talk with one of the Tiger (their attack helicopter) pilots for about an hour. He showed me around and me through the cockpit and all, a nice helicopter but I still prefer the apache hands down! Hope all is well back in the states or wherever you may be! Thanks for all your continued prayers and support and have a great week! Below are some pics from my time here at MRF thus far. Enjoy!

Looking South towards the Tagab valley

Looking west over the base towards BAF

No your eyes do not deceive, that is still snow up on those mountains!

Nice little doggy! There are two on base, love to wag their tails at you, only from a distance though!

French Caracal taking off with a Cougar on the left side. Hope to get a ride in one of these while I'm here.

The Boys stopping in for some gas while out on mission. They waved me over to yell out that they miss me.

Pretty intimidating? Nah, it's French, and it's no Apache!

Check out that Tiger pilot! Like I said, very nice, but give me my Apache anyday!
